Photopoint Gallery artist in residence Joy Dunigan will be featured in the Location Gallery’s ‘About Face’ art show — the first group exhibit held in over a year due to the ridiculously cruel Coronavirus pandemic. With masks on and interpretations of this now fashion-forward garment in every corner of the Gallery’s new spot at 251 Bull Street, Dunigan is excited to have been pushed outside of her creative comfort zone to create an image, imposed on top of another image, depicting the the wasteful, but necessary use of masks.
“It’s disappointing enough to have to wear a mask, but then to walk through, say the supermarket parking lot for example. You see them cast aside, dropped out of cars, ran over, littering the earth. It is just so sad. So wasteful. The image is meant to communicate that if you must use a paper mask, after wearing it, put it where it belongs — in the trash bin,” says Dunigan. “The title of the piece furthers the concept that so many of today’s fashion garments, not just masks, are so cheaply made that they are only good for one wearing. Just another side note regarding the wasteful world so many have grown to live in and accept.”
